Malcesine, on the east side of Lake Garda, clustered around the towering Scaliger Castle and the historical Palazzo dei Capitani, keeps intact its ancient medieval origins. The ever temperate and healthy climate, especially during autumn months, permits beautiful walks in the hills and in the mountains, among the olive groves and the luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation. Sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, underwater sports, tennis, minigolf, paragliding and mountain biking are very common. With the new cableway inaugurated in July 2002, in fact, it is now possible to reach the summit of Mount Baldo (1800 m), where excursionists and nature lovers can hike along the many mountain paths, while mountain bikers liberate the power of their muscles in steep climbs, only to launch themselves down breathtaking descents. In the winter time the cableway lets you reach the vast variety of ski slopes of Monte Baldo where a chair lift and six ski-lifts serve over eleven kilometres of ski trails of varying difficulty.

The new Malcesine - Mount Baldo cableway stands out from the very first glance, thanks to the futuristic forms of its stations. These are buildings with clean architectural lines, where steel, aluminium, glass and stone have been combined to enhance the light, transparent interiors and to blend harmoniously with their outdoor surroundings.
The bottom station has a covered parking area with spaces for 200 cars; from here there is easy access to the embarking area, thanks to the lifts, which also serve the bus terminal and eliminate all forms of architectural barrier.
The cableway is divided into two sections: the first, Malcesine - San Michele is 1512 m in length and covers a difference in height of 463 m; the second, San Michele - Mount Baldo is 2813 m in length and covers a difference in height of 1187 m.
The most important new feature of this cableway, and one that makes it totally unique throughout the world, is the cabin on the second section, which rotates on itself to give passengers a 360° view, as well as the sensation that they are flying. The notable total difference in altitude (1650 m.) is covered in a section of 4325 m, completed in just 10 minutes.

MUSEUMS:
Scaligeri Castle and Museum of Natural History of Mount Baldo and Lake Garda - Renovated in May 2008, the Museum of Natural History of Monte Baldo and Lake Garda offers an original multimedia approach, making visits complete sensorial experiences: visitors can look, touch, smell, listen or use touch screens to obtain any information desired. One section of the museum is dedicated to Goethe. It houses some drawings made by the poet during his “Italian journey” and representing views of the lake and of the Castle of Malcesine.
