There is a zone towards the north end of Lake Garda, at the foot of Monte Baldo, where, as we pass through it, we seem to move back into history: many quaint fishermen’s villages clustered around a port and many rustic rural hamlets in the hills. Brenzone, part on the lake (Assenza, Porto, Magugnano, Marniga and Castelletto), part on the mountain foothills (Castello and Sommavilla) and part on the steep slopes of Monte Baldo such as Prada. Brenzone means not only lake but mountains too (2000 m). Many different kind
of sports are available: sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, trekking and in winter skiing. Garda Extra Virgin Olive Oil, thanks to a generous climate, excellent terrain, correct mix of local olive varieties, special care in harvesting and pressing the olives, can be considered the Prince of dressing! And very famous are the chestnuts too, a classic Autumn fruit, roasted with all their inviting smell or boiled, to be accompanied by a good red wine! The Municipality of Brenzone is a heavenly place situated in the middle of the eastern shore of Lake Garda. Its very ancient history is evidenced by the rupestrian inscriptions found on a rock now kept in the town hall dating back 4,500 years ago. Just above the picturesque hamlets belonging to the municipality of Brenzone, the old and scenic link road surrounded by the luxuriant vegetation of Mount Baldo was once used for trade and movement before the construction of the present main road by the lakeside. It can still be travelled, either walking or by mountain bike. This pleasant place for tourism combines old traditions with the modern life. The clear waters of Lake Garda, its panoramas and unforgettable sunsets have been passionately described by great poets who invite you to live again their experiences in Brenzone. The Municipality of Brenzone offers an excellent food-and-wine selection. From the fish of Lake Garda to the products of Mount Baldo all combined with local extra-virgin olive oil. This typical oil has unique features and aromas and a millenary history. The Restaurants and Trattorias at Brenzone offer many specialities cooked with the fishes of Lake Garda. Among them: the excellent carp, the luce sauce with polenta, eels, whitefish and many others. The Mount Baldo offers other delicacies such as game, cheeses made in the shepherds’ huts and chestnuts in autumn. Excellent wines such as Bardolino red wine which can be served with lake fish and the perfumed white wines Custoza and Lugana are also produced in the area. Several feasts and traditional fairs are a very good occasion for meeting people. In particular we recommend the fair of Saint Catherine on November 25.
